for climate action
At least 200 students are expected to march down Nelson’s main street on Friday, demanding better action on climate change.
The protest is one of several demonstrations scheduled to take place across the country as part of the global “School Strike 4 Climate Action” movement, started in Sweden in 2018 by school girl Greta Thunberg.
Local organiser, Garin College student Nate Wilbourne said those demonstrating in Nelson would march down Trafalgar Street at 3pm to the city council headquarters, Civic House, where they would present an open letter to the council demanding free public transport in Nelson.
“There’s the whole new bus the service ... the new routes, more frequent buses coming mid this year.
