Māori cultural performances axed
Auckland Museum is facing a $3 million deficit due to the impact of Covid-19 on tourism, leading to cultural performances being cut.
Twelve performers of the arts troupe 'Raukawa’ who delivered 21 performances a week have been deemed “financially unsustainable”.
But despite the $8.3 million shortfall in revenue, director Jignasha Patel has not requested additional funding from Auckland Council.
“The museum is fully aware of the financial constraints for Auckland Council in the post-Covid-19 environment and did not request an increase in our Auckland Council levy for the 2020 to 2021 financial year,” Patel said.
