Woman takes housing body to court over lawyer's fees
A Palmerston North woman is taking Kāinga Ora to the Disputes Tribunal to recoup costs from dealing with a disruptive neighbour.
A woman, who did not want to be identified for safety reasons, has lived next door to a Kāinga Ora property in Westbrook for almost two years and made multiple complaints about the previous tenants’ bad behaviour.
She was threatened, had her windows smashed, and there were police call-outs to the house. She started asking for something to be done in October 2021 and it was June 2022 when the tenants were moved on.
Now she wants Kāinga Ora to pay her $1000 to cover her lawyer’s fees, as well as the cost of replacing a window the tenants broke twice and building a higher fence for security. There is a small claims hearing next month.
